Recap - Thursday, July 31

w00t! w00t! Well it was only a $25 freeroll, but I placed 2nd and added $4.13 to the bankroll. I went in to heads-up almost even in chips, but I ran into a cooler hand (JJ-me vs AQ-him) after almost 20 minutes of heads-up and he doubled up through me and left me with only a few BBs. I actually built back up to where he had a 3-1 chip lead and then we both had pocket pairs (66-me vs 88-him).

Opponent has A9. ARG! But, it was a cash. Could have been a lot deeper with a little good fortune, but I did cash. Finished 56th for $0.48.

2nd Cash In 2 Days

The bubble just burst in the CardsChat $200 freeroll and I'm in the money.
82nd to 90th pay 36 cents and I am currently 59th of 85.

Recap - Saturday July 26

Well, today had to rank as one of the most frustrating days of play in my recent past. I kept getting my chips in the middle as a 70/30 favorite or better and kept getting outdrawn time after time after time.
But, the good news is, I had my first cash for the project. I finished 59th in the $100 railbirds freeroll for 23 cents.

Tournaments Today
0940 – Full Tilt Poker $100 Freeroll. ARG! I flopped a set of 8s on a flop of 872. My opponent raises, I re-raise, he re-raises, I push all in, he calls with 77. And a freaking 7 comes on the river for quads.
1000 – PokerManilla $22 Freeroll. Went out in the middle of this one. Just too many idiots that would call with 38o in this one.
1040 – Full Tilt Poker 100T$ Freeroll. I finished 76th in this one. Only top 27 get paid.
1240 – Full Tilt Poker 36T$ Early Double Satellite. Finished 81st. Only top 3 are paid.
1315 – FreeRoll Army $25 Freeroll. Early exit. Can’t get my big hands to hold up on the river.

2200 – thedonkeyfarm $25 freeroll. Finished 79th with top 18 being paid.

Play Money Progress
Big negative on the progress. I simply could get a hand to hold up all day and dropped back almost 90,000 on the play money balance.
The good news is that the law averages says I’m due for a good long run to balance today out.

1440 – $100 Full Tilt Freeroll – Yuck. Early exit once again. I’m only playing the Full Tilt Freerolls when I have very little else to do as I have never cashed in one of the “open” one. The only one I’ve ever cashed (twice) was the “American Players” freerolls.
1955 - $25 CardMafia.com Horse Freeroll – went out right in the middle of this one.

Sites That Host Private Freerolls on Full Tilt Poker

Listed below you will find a list of sites that host private freerolls on Full Tilt Poker and the password requirements for each site. There are some sites I am a member of that you may find the requirements to be too much and there are others I am not a member of that you may find the requirements to be tolerable. I find it hard to be active on more than about 3 sites at a time.

The point being that you should explore each of the sites below and make your own determination as to whether or not you like the site and can meet the requirements.

Please list TRB1965 as your referal
Please note that I am a member of many of the sites listed below. If you do join one of these sites, please list TRB1965 as your referral.

The below listed sites currently have a freeroll scehduled on Full Tilt during the month of June 2009. I have removed all sites that do not have a tournament listed for June 2009.

Sites Where I Play The Freerolls

Railbirds.com
Requirements - The site requires you to register and establish a certain minimum level of activity. Usually filling out your profile and posting a “I’m new here” blog will meet the initial requirement. The site also has a continued activity requirement. The requirement is not specified in advance. Passwords are delivered via PM on the site approximately 1 hour prior to the freeroll.
Freerolls – Irregularly scheduled (but multiple times per week) $150 freerolls. These are usually No Limit Hold ‘Em but occasionally other disciplines are included as well. The schedule is usually published well in advance on the site (http://www.railbirds.com/tournaments/schedule/).

CardsChat.com
Requirements – The site requires you to join the Cardschat Freeroll Club to participate in their freerolls. You must for 65 quality post and maintain a minimum activity on the site to join and remain in the Freeroll Club.
Freerolls – $200 freeroll twice a week (rotating times on Tuesday and 13:00 on Saturday.)

Ixgames.com
Requirements – The site requires you to register. Apparently all registered users are eligible for the freerolls. Passwords are posted in the forum the day of the tournament.
Freerolls – $50 freeroll on Sunday.
Notes – The password is released well in advance and there are a lot of sit outs in these tournaments.

Rakeback.com (Rakeback Community Poker)
Requirements – The site requires you to register. Apparently all registered users are eligible for the freerolls. The password is posted in the forum anywhere from the middle of the week to later in the week.
Freerolls – $100 freerolls on Sundays.
Notes – rakeback.com is a rake back site that requires you to sign up for a poker room through them to get rake back. However, it appears that the only requirement for playing in the freerolls in registering for the forum.

WDIAV.com
Requirements – This site requires you to join the forum to be eligible for their Step 1 and Step 2 tournaments.
Freerolls – $25 freeroll on recurring (but irregular basis). $100 freeroll once a month.
Notes – Don’t get confused by these. The Step 1 and Step 2 freerolls are basically unrestricted $25 and $100 freerolls. You can choice to participate in the forums and earn points to use in the Step system to try to earn a WSOP seat, but you can also just treat these as $25 and $100 freerolls.
Notes - The $25 freerolls are continuing "through the world series". WDIAV has announced that after they will be announcing a new forum (and tournament) system after the world series.

Pokerspace.com
Requirements – This site requires you to join the site. You must also join each event on the site to be able to view the password.
Freerolls – The schedule and prize amounts have changed each month for 2009, but these seems to be one $50 freeroll and one $100 freeroll each week.
Notes - pokerspace.com also host freerools where you buy in using pokerspace points (earned in various manners on the site). These points buy-ins are the only ones currently listed on Full Tilt for the month of June.

Pokerstop.com
Requirements – The site requires you to register for the site.
Freerolls – $100 freeroll on Sundays.
Notes – The password is release on Monday morning and the tournament fills up in less than an hour.

pokercurious.com
Requirements – The site requires you to register for the site.
Freerolls – $100 freerolls schedule unknown
Notes – The password is release via PM 30 minutes prior to the tournament

The below sites do not currently have a tournament listed for the month of June 2009, but base on my past observation, I think they could be added to the schedule.

RoundersRadio.com
Requirements – You have to visit the site in the 30 minutes prior to the tournament and get the password from the radio show.
Freerolls – $50 freeroll on Fridays on a irregular basis.

FreeRollArmy.com
Requirements – The site requires you to register. Apparently all registered users are eligible for the freerolls. Passwords are posted in the forum anywhere from several hours to 5 minutes prior to the start of the tournament.
Freerolls – $25 freerolls. These are held on an irregular schedule. This are generally No Limit Hold ‘Em, but some have been other disciplines.
Notes – The schedule for these is very irregular. At times there have been none for a month or more, but then at times they are held daily for long stretches of time.

WePokerYou.com
Requirements – The site requires you to join.
Freerolls – Very irregular. $25 when they happen.
Notes – This site once hosted very regular freerolls on Full Tilt, but the schedule has become random in 2009.

Donkhard.com
Requirements – The site requires you to register. Apparently all registered users are eligible for the freerolls. The password is posted in the forum minutes in advance of the tournament.
Freerolls – $25 (sometimes $30) freerolls on an irregular basis.
Notes – Donkhard.com is a rake back site that requires you to sign up for a poker room through them to get rake back. However, it appears that the only requirement for playing in the freerolls in registering for the forum.

Pinkcowpoker.com
Requirements – The site requires you to register and download their toolbar. The password is delivered via the toolbar.
Freerolls – $25 freerolls on an irregular schedule.

The below sites do currently have a tournament listed for the month of June 2009, but I have not had time to research them.

Zero Across The Board

I played $1.25 9 seat turbo SNGs until my FTPs where an even number (70). I then entered (and sat out) in a 50 FTP and a 20 FTP tournament to get my FTPs to zero.

Next I transfered my reamining funds $11.26 to my wife.

And then I entered and sat out in play chips tourneys until my play chip balance was at zero.

Zero across the board and all set to begin my challange.

From this point on a will post a recap at the end of each days play (some days it will not be much) as well as posting some other articles on strategies used, sites that host private freerolls on Full Tilt, and any thing else that I think is useful or interesting.

I will now begin working on building up my play chips. I will also enter 2 or 3 private freerolls tonight.

Let "Project : Freeroll" begin.

P.S. Check out some of the new things I added to the right side bar. There's a couple of poker news feeds and I'll be added more things as I find them.

"Project: Freeroll" - An Overview

As many of you know, Chris Ferguson undertook a challenge were he started his Full Tilt Poker bankroll at zero and built it up to $10,000. He started off playing only Full Tilt Poker freerolls (no private freerolls) and moved on to playing buy-in tournaments as he accumulated bankroll through freerolls.

Well, I'm not Chris Ferguson. I've tried to build my bankroll through playing freeroll tournaments first and then moving on to playing buy-in tournaments, but I've inevitably went broke and had to start over.

In my most recent cycle, I went broke approximately June 25, 2008 (well I went down to 88 cents and couldn't afford to buy-in to a SNG with that). Since I was concentrating on qualifying for the Full Tilt Poker Iron Man One-A-Day Freeroll, I decided to not play any buy-in tournaments and play only freerolls to build as much bankroll as possible through the end of July and then try to profit enough in the $1.25 SNGs to play one every day in August.

In doing this I built my bankroll from $0.88 to $8.26 as of July 19 through playing in freerolls and only freerolls. That is $7.38 won in freerolls in about 3 and 1/2 weeks.

During this process of building my bankroll, I made several observations and decided to use by Full Tilt Poker account and bankroll to experiment with a "fun" project. This blog will chronicle that project and this particular post will establish the ground rules for the project.

PROJECT : FREEROLL

BASICS

  • This project will apply to my Full Tilt Poker account and my Full Tilt Poker account only.
The basics are that using freerolls only (defined as any tournament or table that does not require a real money buy-in), I will spend 1 year building my bankroll without ever putting any of my bankroll at risk.
  • All freerolls I play in must be easily accessible to the general playing public. I will not participate in freerolls that have elaborate requirements that would take a significant amount of time to qualify for.
  • I will play in private freerolls on Full Tilt Poker (freerolls hosted by various web sites, forums, etc.) as long as those freerolls would be generally available to anyone with minimal effort. So if the site requires a certain minimal number of post to get the private freeroll passwords, then that is permissible. Also sites that simply require registration, filling out a form, answering a poker quiz, etc. are permissible. I will also participate in "rewards" freerolls from these same sites. For example if site X holds private freerolls on Full Tilt Poker and has a monthly scoring system where the top 100 for the month are invited to a freeroll at the end of the month, then I will participate in that freeroll. So basically anything that requires minimal effort or comes directly from my play in this project.

METHODOLOGY

  • First I will zero out all the aspects of my Full Tilt Poker account. This will include my money account, my play chip account, and my FTP points account.
  • I will then start playing play chip tournaments and freerolls in an effort to build my account.
  • I will use the play chips to buy into the nightly 500,000 play chip tournament that is has $40 prize pool.
  • I will play in private freerolls as described above.
  • I will play in the Full Tilt Poker freerolls (these are the 2,700 and 2,400 person freerolls that pay the top 27 and some that pay the top 3). I may not play these very often and instead spend the time playing for play chips to build that account.
  • I will include any tournament dollar winnings and "real money" in calculate my bankroll.
  • I will detail strategies and specifics in various posts on this site.

Please let me know if you have any questions about the details of this project and I will do my best to answer them.

Just Getting Started

Hi all. I'm just getting started creating this blog. I'll be adding a full description of what I will be doing with this blog very soon (hopefully by the end of the weekend).
Check back soon for more details.
